50th Anniversary Edition Black Vinyl 2LP in Gatefold Jacket, Brick & Mortar Exclusive

This double LP is Rhino's 50th anniversary edition of Shake Some Action, issued July 17, 2026 in the label's Spirit of '76 reissue campaign and sold as a brick-and-mortar retail exclusive. The first disc carries the original fourteen-track album, remastered from the original analog tape, with the vinyl cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The second disc is all previously unreleased: ten studio recordings from the album sessions, among them alternate mixes and an alternate version of album tracks plus "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "I Got Mine," followed by seven songs recorded live at The Roxy in Hollywood on August 12, 1976.

Both black discs sit in a gatefold jacket with a four-page fold-out insert of photographs and liner notes, and the center labels carry the yellow Sire design of the original release. The pressing is a US release, catalog number R1 728815.

Shake Some Action was the fourth studio album by the Flamin' Groovies and the first by the reconstituted band led by guitarist Cyril Jordan after singer Roy Loney left. Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales with Dave Edmunds producing, and released by Sire in June 1976, it set aside the blues and rockabilly of the earlier records for guitar-driven power pop modeled on the British Invasion. The band went as far as velvet-collared three-piece suits and Cuban heels to match. The title track and "You Tore Me Down" came from 1972 sessions with Edmunds, cut while the group was living in the UK.

The album reached No. 142 on the Billboard albums chart and found a larger audience in Britain, where the band was grouped with the early punk scene alongside the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Greil Marcus chose the title track as one of the ten in his 2014 book The History of Rock 'n' Roll in Ten Songs, and Cracker covered it for the 1995 Clueless soundtrack. The lineup is Cyril Jordan and Chris Wilson on guitars and vocals, James Ferrell on guitar, George Alexander on bass and David Wright on drums, with Danny Mihm drumming on "Shake Some Action" and "You Tore Me Down."
