BMG issues Apples For Isaac on compact disc in a digisleeve with two postcard inserts, under catalog number 964180622. The single disc holds all eleven songs.

The band's previous release, The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon in 2018, re-recorded thirteen songs from their catalog alongside two new ones. Apples For Isaac is a record of new songs throughout, the first such collection from Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant in twelve years.

McCulloch told The Quietus that he writes without recording ideas as he goes: "It's all in my head: I don't use voice memos on my phone." Sergeant, by the same account, brought guitar runs he had been carrying in his head. "Lab Rats Ran" features saxophone, which The Quietus notes may be a first on a Bunnymen record, and McCulloch named the ballad "An Unstoppable Force" as "possibly the greatest thing I've ever done in terms of a concise, perfect song."

Clem Burke of Blondie drums on all but one track. He died in April 2025, while the album was being completed.

"Take Me By The Hand" opens the album. It was issued as a single on September 4, 2026, a day after its first play on Craig Charles's BBC Radio 6 Music show.
