Rhino Reserve 180-Gram Black Vinyl

This LP belongs to Rhino Reserve, the Rhino series built around 180-gram vinyl, analog sources where they exist, and pressing at Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard, California. For Groover's Paradise the lacquers were cut from the original analog master by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, and the Reserve seal on the jacket marks the record as 180 gram and cut from analog tape.

It is part of Rocktober 2026, Rhino's program of 54 limited-edition vinyl titles for brick-and-mortar record stores, and sits in the October 23 group of Reserve pressings alongside Randy Newman's Sail Away and Good Old Boys and Mott the Hoople's Brain Capers.

Sahm recorded the album in May and June 1974 at Cosmo's Factory in Berkeley, under contract to DSR Productions, the company run by former Creedence Clearwater Revival members Doug Clifford and Stu Cook, which delivered its masters to Warner. Clifford produced and played drums, Cook played bass, and the band, billed as the Tex-Mex Trip, included saxophonist Frank Rodarte and Link Davis, Jr. Sahm wrote every song except Luis Guerrero's "La Cacahuata."

Warner Bros. released it in August 1974. It was a hit in Austin without charting nationally. Kerry Awn drew the sleeve, a gathering of well-known Austin scenes, with armadillos by Jim Franklin; the Austin Chronicle later called the record "the quintessential Austin album."
