The compact disc edition of There Near, catalog number JAG480, with all eleven songs on a single disc. Jagjaguwar released it on August 28, 2026, alongside several vinyl pressings of the same album.

There Near is Dinosaur Jr.'s thirteenth studio album. J Mascis has framed it as a return to the band's earliest sound, borrowing a habit he credits to Rick Rubin: "You always hear how Rick Rubin always makes bands he's producing sit down and listen to their first album and say let's get back to that sound. So I just gave myself his advice."

On the lyrics he is less specific. "I'm not always sure what a song is 'about' when I'm writing it," he says in the label's notes, adding that he usually writes in the third person: "It's all just make believe."

Those notes, written by Byron Coley, place the band's noise-pop formula alongside what Hüsker Dü were attempting in the same years, and name Nirvana among the bands Dinosaur Jr. inspired.

Guy Kozak directed the videos for "Several Got Away," shared when the album was announced on June 30, 2026, and "Everything At Once," which followed on release day.
