Black Vinyl, Remastered in 2026 From the Studio Tapes

This is the black vinyl edition of GoldState Music's 2026 reissue of the Dead Kennedys debut: a single LP in the original sleeve, with a hype sticker that reads "Remastered 2026 from studio tapes." The GoldState name is printed on the center labels, and the fourteen songs are split seven to a side, as on the 1980 LP.

The band recorded the album in May and June 1980 at Möbius Music in San Francisco. Norm and East Bay Ray produced it, and Oliver DiCicco and John Cuniberti engineered. The lineup was Jello Biafra, East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride and drummer Bruce Slesinger, credited as Ted. This is the only Dead Kennedys studio album he plays on. It was first released on September 2, 1980, through Cherry Red in the UK and I.R.S. in the US.

Three of these songs were also released as singles: "California Über Alles" in 1979, and "Holiday in Cambodia" and "Kill the Poor" in 1980. "Holiday in Cambodia" first came out as a single in May 1980, and the band re-recorded it for this album. The record reached number 2 on the UK Indie chart and has been certified Gold by both the RIAA and the BPI. The cover photograph was taken in San Francisco during the White Night riots of May 21, 1979.
