Texas Moon was cut in 1973 for Shelby Singleton's Plantation Records and then sat on the shelf. It did not reach release until 1977, by which point David Allan Coe had signed to Columbia and the outlaw records that made his name were already in the racks.

What the sessions caught is Coe reading his own influences. The album is built from songs by Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver and Jackson Browne, among others, played by the road band he was working with at the time rather than a Nashville session crew.

This deluxe edition adds two previously unreleased demos from Coe's earliest Nashville sessions with Singleton, and they close the record: "Revenge" and "Desperados Waiting For A Train," both marked as Texas Moon demos.

It is the first time the album has been pressed to vinyl in more than four decades. One LP on 180 gram transparent emerald green vinyl, with a printed inner sleeve. Sun Records catalog number SUN8181.
