Dahi - Black Boy (Alternative) (White Vinyl)

Limited Edition White Eco-Vinyl

This is the single-LP edition of Black Boy (Alternative), Dahi's debut album, pressed on limited-edition white eco-vinyl. ALTER Music's own store lists a gatefold jacket, a 12-page booklet and a library card insert, and the catalog number is ALT009. Eleven songs are split six and five across the two sides. The album is also issued as a numbered white and clear double LP that adds an instrumental version, and on CD.

Dahi, born Dacoury Natche in Inglewood, California, built his name as a producer. His breakthrough was Kendrick Lamar's "Money Trees" on good kid, m.A.A.d city in 2012, he went on to produce Drake's "Worst Behavior," and he won the 2020 Grammy for Best Rap Song for 21 Savage's "A Lot," featuring J. Cole.

As The Line of Best Fit reported the announcement, the album reframes Black identity as self-defined, drawing on the hip-hop, R&B, alternative and rock music Dahi absorbed growing up, and the title refers to "the boy who found himself in that conflict."

Lamar returns as a guest here, with Amber Mark, on "How To Pray." Childish Gambino is featured on "Running," Vince Staples, Channel Tres and French Anthony open the record on "Who Are You," and Moses Sumney, Obongjayar, Fousheé, Baby Rose, Elmiene and Ravyn Lenae appear later in the sequence. "Find Me," "Running" and "Square Up" came out ahead of the album. The "How To Pray" video above is split into two vertical halves meant to be played at the same time on two separate devices, a format Dahi first used for "Find Me."
