Portrait released She's So Unusual in October 1983, and this copy was pressed that year at Columbia's plant in Carrollton, Georgia. Its runouts carry no cutting engineer's signature, which separates it from the Carrollton copies signed chet or Barry.

The object

FR 38930 appears on both the spine and the labels, and the inner sleeve, printed with the lyrics, is numbered 38930. The barcode, printed 0 74643 89301 02, differs from the one on the original release, a Pitman pressing with BFR 38930 on its spine. The label matrices are AL 38930 and BL 38930.

The front cover is Annie Leibovitz's photograph, taken in summer 1983 on Henderson Walk in Coney Island outside a closed wax museum. Janet Perr's package won the Grammy for Best Recording Package in 1985.

Context

Rick Chertoff produced the album at the Record Plant in New York, with William Wittman as associate producer and engineer. This Carrollton copy comes from the album's release year rather than from a later repress.
