This double LP wears the soundtrack's original cover: the driver seen from behind in his scorpion jacket, under the pink Drive script. Lakeshore Records lists this jacket simply as Drive, apart from its Drive 5 and Drive 10 alternates, and the discs are the label's "Driver's Jacket" gold splatter on clear vinyl. The gatefold opens on a still of Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan, and the back of the jacket lays out the four sides beneath a shot of Gosling leaning in at a car window.

The credits printed inside the gatefold name Martinez as score producer, playing the Baschet crystal, with Mac Quayle on guitar and Gregory Tripi on saz and sitar. Brian McNelis and Skip Williamson produced the soundtrack album, with Nicolas Winding Refn as executive producer; John Bergin was art director, and DNA Mastering in Glendale, California mastered it. Johnny Jewel, credited as writer of "Tick of the Clock" and "Under Your Spell," was first hired to score the film before Martinez took over.

Lakeshore issued the soundtrack on CD in 2011. Its first vinyl pressing followed in 2012 through Mondo, and Lakeshore and Invada Records marked the fifth anniversary with a special edition in 2016. The album reached No. 1 on both the US and UK soundtrack album charts, and the Boston Society of Film Critics named it for Best Use of Music. Lakeshore's notes add that Rolling Stone named Drive the No. 1 movie of 2011.
