Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight (1978, Terre Haute Pressing)

This is Epic's 1978 American issue on orange labels, pressed at the Columbia Records plant in Terre Haute, Indiana, with the larger pressing ring of that early run. Sterling Sound and Customatrix are both credited for the mastering work, and the small stamped "o" in the side A runout is the Customatrix mark that separates this issue from an otherwise similar Terre Haute pressing.

The object

Each runout is etched with the side's lacquer number, AL-35312 on side A and BL-35312 on side B, followed by a suffix of the form 1A or 1E. STERLING and the letters beside it are stamped, and George Marino is the mastering credit. The T1 in the deadwax is the Terre Haute plant's mark.

The labels and the spine read JE 35312, while the back of the jacket and the inner sleeve print 35312 alone. Epic issued the record with a custom inner sleeve carrying the lyrics on one side and a photograph with printed autographs on the other. That sleeve is the only place "Oh Claire" is listed, and it gives side B's opener its longer title, "Takin' Me Back (Long Time Ago)." The side A label misprints one of the "High Roller" writers as R. Petersson.

Context

Heaven Tonight came out in 1978, the same year this copy was pressed. Tom Werman produced the sessions at the Record Plant and Sound City in Los Angeles, and Paula Scher and Jim Charne designed the jacket around Reid Miles's photographs.
