On compact disc, Day and Night keeps the album's own division intact: Interscope's store lists the twelve Day songs as CD 1 and the twelve Night songs as CD 2, so each disc holds one half of the record. Universal Music Canada's announcement describes an album that captures "a blurred, dreamlike sense of time where nights stretch into mornings and days dissolve into nights."

"On Wires" was the first single, issued on June 26, 2026. Jepsen wrote it with Kyle Shearer and Nate Cyphert, and Shearer produced it; the same three wrote "After All," the song that opens the Day disc. The "On Wires" video was directed by Caio Viera in Los Angeles and filmed during the sixth month of Jepsen's pregnancy, and the label's notes say it explores "the tug-of-war between motherhood and career."

Jepsen comes from Mission, British Columbia. By her label's count, "Call Me Maybe" topped the charts in more than 47 countries and earned two Grammy nominations, and E•MO•TION (2015) has passed one billion streams worldwide. Dedicated (2019) and The Loneliest Time (2022) came next, each alongside companion B-side releases.
