This is the American compact disc of Somethin' Else on Blue Note catalogue number CDP 7 46338 2, pressed at Capitol's Jacksonville, Illinois plant from a glass master made at DADC. Its matrix ring reads DIDX-080002 1 CAPITOL JAX 4 C 46338 1-1-2, and that CAPITOL JAX stamp separates it from the Japanese-made discs Toshiba-EMI supplied under the same catalogue number. It dates from between late 1986, when Jacksonville began making compact discs, and 1993, when the plant's name changed to EMI Jax.
One disc. The booklet front keeps Reid Miles's stacked lettering but drops the closing BLUE NOTE 1595 line in favor of the Blue Note logo, with the Compact Disc Digital Audio mark and an ADD code in the lower left: analog recording, digital mixing and mastering. The printed barcode is 0 7777-46338-2 6.
Blue Note first put Somethin' Else on compact disc in 1986, and this catalogue number was pressed more than once in the US. Like every CDP 7 46338 2 disc, it adds a sixth track to the five of the 1958 LP: "Alison's Uncle," a take from the same session that Nat Adderley named in the 1980s and that is in fact Hank Jones's tune "Bangoon."
Somethin' Else, recorded on March 9, 1958, was Adderley's only album for Blue Note.
