This is the signed indie-store edition of Buddy Miller's self-titled album: a single 150-gram LP on clear vinyl in a gatefold jacket, carrying Miller's autograph. New West Records sells it alongside a standard black LP, a CD and a signed CD, and the barcode for this edition sits on the shrinkwrap.

The album gathers twelve songs across soul, country, early rock 'n' roll and gospel. It opens with "As Long as I Have You," the early Temptations hit, with the McCrary Sisters singing on four tracks. Julie Miller, Buddy's wife and longtime recording partner, wrote five of the songs, including the closer "Masterpiece in the Sand." Dan Penn sings on "Don't Look Back" and supplies "Not Enough Time to Change," The War & Treaty join Jesse Winchester's "Lay Down the Burden of Your Heart," and Lee Ann Womack duets on "Stop Me."

Shawn Colvin and Jim Lauderdale both played in the band Miller formed in New York in 1980, and both return here. Emmylou Harris, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams sing on "The Inner Sanctum of God," and "Till the Wheels Come Off" was written about Buddy and Julie by Ashley Monroe, Elizabeth Cook, Angaleena Presley and Meg McRee. The core band is Fred Eltringham on drums, Viktor Krauss on bass, Tim Lauer on keyboards and accordion, Steve Fishell on pedal steel and Fats Kaplin on fiddle, with horns arranged by Jim Hoke. Mike Poole recorded the sessions, Miller mixed them with Alasdair MacKenzie, and Eric Conn mastered the record.
