Double LP on 180 Gram Black Vinyl

Ninja Tune's standard vinyl edition of Black Sands, catalog number ZEN140, spreads the album's twelve tracks across four sides of two 180-gram black LPs playing at 33 1/3 RPM. The records come in printed inner sleeves carrying artwork and credits, the front of the jacket lists the full running order, and a download code for an MP3 version is included. This barcode has stayed in print since 2010, with black vinyl represses following in 2020 and 2022.

Black Sands is the fourth studio album from Simon Green, the English producer who records as Bonobo, first released by Ninja Tune on 29 March 2010. Every track is written and performed by Green, who plays most of the record himself: piano, upright and electric bass, guitars, Fender Rhodes, harmonium, harp, xylophone and mandolin among them. Andreya Triana sings on "Eyesdown," "The Keeper" and "Stay the Same," and "Eyesdown" went out as the lead single in September 2009. Mike Simmonds adds violin and viola and Mike Lesirge flute, saxophone and clarinet, with brass from Alan Hardiman and Ryan Jacob and drums from Graham Fox and Jack Baker.

The cover photograph was taken at Derwentwater in northern England, with a mast at Castlerigg standing in the background. By November 2016 the album had been certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry for 60,000 units in the UK. Its songs have turned up in film, television and games: "All In Forms" in the 2012 film House at the End of the Street, "Kong" in House of Cards, "Kiara" in the video game Sleeping Dogs, and the title track as the title song of the 2015 French film The Measure of a Man.
