The 20th anniversary expanded edition of Face The Promise, which Capitol/UMe presents as the album's first release on vinyl. It comes on two black LPs in a gatefold jacket, with a 12-page LP-sized booklet of lyrics and photos that includes a full 24-inch spread of the front and back cover.

The audio is newly remastered by Robert Vosgien, Seger's longtime mastering engineer. Sides One through Three carry the original twelve songs in their 2006 order. Side Four holds four bonus tracks, "Time," "Little Jane," "Red Eye to Memphis" and "Let Me Try," and "Little Jane" was released on its own ahead of this edition.

Face The Promise first came out on September 12, 2006, on Capitol. It was Seger's first studio album in eleven years, since It's a Mystery in 1995, and his first since Beautiful Loser in 1975 not credited to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. He produced it himself. Most of it was recorded at Ocean Way in Nashville, with "Won't Stop" and "The Long Goodbye" cut at home studios in Michigan.

Seger wrote every song but one. "Real Mean Bottle" is a Vince Gill song, sung as a duet with Kid Rock, who plays guitar on it and co-produced the track. "The Answer's In The Question" is a duet with Patty Loveless; in 2023 Seger helped induct her into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA within three months, with "Wait for Me" and "Wreck This Heart" as its singles. Seger is a member of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Capitol names him the longest-tenured solo artist in the label's history.
