1986 US issue, ALA Records ALA 1986
ALA Records of Los Angeles released Soul Captives in the US in 1986 under catalog number ALA 1986. Its ten songs, in the same running order, are the ten on The Best Of The Wailers, the album Leslie Kong produced for his Beverley's label in Jamaica in 1971.
The object
ALA's orange labels carry the company logo and its address at 4218 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, and credit Stop The Train and Can't You See to P. McIntosh. A photograph of Haile Selassie I stands between green, yellow and red bands on the front cover, and the back cover sets a Lion of Judah on the same three colors. The runout on each side reads BOB MARLEY ALA 1982 with the final 2 struck through and a 6 after it.
Context
ALA had released the same ten recordings earlier as Shakedown, catalog number ALA 1982, the number reworked in the Soul Captives deadwax. Fifteen years separate this ALA pressing from the 1971 Beverley's LP.
