180 Gram Black Vinyl LP

This is the Tuff Gong and Island reissue of Catch A Fire on a single 180-gram LP, first issued in this form in 2015 and carrying its barcode, 600753600689, as the catalog number. The jacket carries Esther Anderson's photograph of Marley. The hinged Zippo-lighter sleeve that Rod Dyer and Bob Weiner designed for the album was used only on the first 20,000 copies in 1973.

Island released the album on April 13, 1973, credited to The Wailers. It was the group's first record for the label; later pressings, this one included, credit Bob Marley and the Wailers. The rhythm tracks were cut in Kingston in 1972 at Dynamic Sound, Harry J's and Randy's, with Sylvan Morris engineering. Chris Blackwell then remixed them at Island's Basing Street studio in London, where Muscle Shoals session guitarist Wayne Perkins added the lead on "Concrete Jungle," the video above, the slide on "Baby We've Got A Date" and the wah-wah on "Stir It Up."

Marley wrote seven of the nine songs; Peter Tosh wrote "400 Years" and "Stop That Train." The album reached No. 171 on the Billboard 200 and No. 51 on the R&B albums chart. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 140 on its 2020 list of the 500 greatest albums.
