2026 Reissue 2LP

This 2026 reissue returns Before the Flood to vinyl as a double LP, with all 21 performances in the original four-side running order. The jacket keeps the original credit, Bob Dylan/The Band.

Recorded on the joint 1974 American tour by Bob Dylan and the Band, it was Dylan's first live album, his 15th album overall and the Band's seventh. It was first released on June 20, 1974, on Asylum in the US and Island in the UK. Most of the record comes from the tour's final shows at the Los Angeles Forum on February 13 and 14, with "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" taken from Madison Square Garden in New York on January 30. Wally Heider Recording captured the shows on location with engineers Rob Fraboni and Phil Ramone, the album was mixed at the Village Recorders, and Barry Feinstein handled photography and design.

Dylan's songs share the set with the Band's own catalog, including Robbie Robertson's "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "The Weight." Robertson, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel and Rick Danko play throughout. The album reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the US and gold in the UK. Robert Christgau, writing in Creem, called it "the craziest and strongest rock and roll ever recorded," and it placed sixth in the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll for 1974; Dylan later said the tour "had become absurd." The video above is the official audio of the opening "Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)" from the Forum.
