180 Gram Black Vinyl, Gatefold Jacket

Rhino's 180-gram pressing, catalog number RR1 3104, carries the 2012 remastered audio prepared by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham. A single LP in a gatefold jacket, pressed at Quality Record Pressings, in the Warner Bros. sleeve that put the label's stereo logo and the number 3104 in the top corner. Warner reissued the album under that number after the original American run, and the reproduction keeps it.

Paranoid is Black Sabbath's second album. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward recorded it at Regent Sound and Island Studios in London over three days, June 16 to 18, 1970, with Rodger Bain producing and Tom Allom and Brian Humphries engineering. Their debut had appeared earlier the same year.

The record was to be called War Pigs until the label judged the title track the stronger single. Keith McMillan, credited as Keef, photographed the sleeve at Black Park in Buckinghamshire; his assistant Roger Brown posed in a white helmet with a sword, superimposed three times.

"Paranoid" was released as a single in August 1970 and reached number four on the UK chart, the band's highest placing there. Vertigo issued the album in the United Kingdom on September 18, 1970, where it went to number one; Warner Bros. followed in the United States on January 7, 1971, and it climbed to number twelve on the Billboard 200 that March. The RIAA certifies it four times platinum.
