Columbia issued Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II in 1985 as a two-record set under catalog number C2 40121, and this copy was pressed at Columbia's plant in Pitman, New Jersey. The object

C2 40121 is two LPs in a gatefold jacket, and each of its runouts carries STERLING, stamped, for the mastering at Sterling Sound in New York credited to Ted Jensen, alongside an etched P for the Pitman plant. The label matrices are AL 40122 and BL 40122 on the first disc and AL 40123 and BL 40123 on the second.

Context

This Pitman set dates from the compilation's first year. Nineteen of its 21 tracks had been released before; You're Only Human (Second Wind) and The Night Is Still Young were first released here, recorded and mixed at The Hit Factory in New York.
