30th Anniversary Edition, Gatefold 2LP, Newly Remastered For Vinyl

Ben Folds Five's 1995 debut across two 180-gram discs in a gatefold jacket, remastered for vinyl by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound in Nashville. The second disc is the Shelved First Attempt: eleven recordings from the session the band abandoned, transferred from a DAT copy in Ben Folds' own archive and issued here for the first time. A four-panel insert carries photographs and notes by Folds.

The album people know came out of four days at WaveCastle Studios in North Carolina in February 1995 with producer Caleb Southern. It was the second try. An earlier three-week session in Philadelphia with producer Dave "Stiff" Johnson, paid for on a five-figure budget, was shelved — and that is what fills sides C and D. Several songs appear twice across the set as a result, in two different readings.

The record is piano, bass and drums, with no lead guitar on it anywhere. It did not chart in the United States, reaching No. 37 on the Australian ARIA chart and No. 72 on the Japanese Oricon chart, where it was certified Gold. The interest it drew led to the band signing with Sony.

Originally issued on July 25, 1995 by Passenger Records, a Caroline Records imprint. This edition is on Capitol Records and UMe.

Shipping Speeds & Delivery Estimates

Delivery timelines are estimates, not guarantees.

Estimated delivery windows are quoted at checkout based on the shipping speed you select and your delivery address. Transit time begins after your order has been processed.

Typical delivery within the United States ranges from 3–7 business days after shipment, depending on location and selected service. Delivery times for Canada vary by destination and carrier, and may be affected by customs processing.

While most deliveries arrive within the quoted window, occasional delays may occur due to weather, carrier volume, or other factors outside our control.

Shipping Rates

Shipping costs are calculated and displayed at checkout based on destination, package weight, and selected delivery speed.

Orders totaling over $250 may require a signature upon delivery to help ensure safe receipt. This is applied based on order value and carrier guidelines.

• Please retain all original packaging, including the outer box and packing materials

• Contact us as soon as possible (ideally immediately) after delivery

• Include your order number, a brief description of the issue, and clear photos

Prompt reporting allows us to resolve issues efficiently and, when applicable, pursue carrier claims.

Refunds

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method after inspection (if a return is required).

• Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the error was ours

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.

Preorders

Preorders may be cancelled for a full refund at any time before the order ships.

Once a preorder has shipped, it is treated as a completed order and is subject to the return, refund, and exchange policies outlined above.
