Import Double LP at 45 RPM, Gatefold Sleeve

This is the 2005 vinyl edition of Guero, cut across two 12-inch discs that play at 45 RPM and housed in a gatefold sleeve. It carries Interscope catalog number 9864087, the edition issued for the UK and Europe, and arrives here as an import. Spreading thirteen tracks over four sides leaves three or four songs to a side; later reissues, from 2016 on, fit the album onto a single LP.

Guero is Beck's ninth studio album, released by Interscope in March 2005. He made it with John King and Mike Simpson of the Dust Brothers, the production team behind his 1996 album Odelay, with Tony Hoffer co-producing "Broken Drum" and "Farewell Ride." Bob Ludwig mastered it, and the cover art is by Marcel Dzama.

The title is Mexican Spanish for a blond or fair-skinned person, a word Beck has said he heard on the street growing up in a largely Chicano part of Los Angeles. The opening track, "E-Pro," carries an excerpt of the Beastie Boys' "So What'cha Want." Jack White plays bass on "Go It Alone," Money Mark adds organ to "Earthquake Weather," Petra Haden sings on "Rental Car," and Christina Ricci speaks on "Hell Yes," credited in the liner notes as Kurisuti-na. "Broken Drum" is dedicated to Beck's friend Elliott Smith.

The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 162,000 copies sold in its first week, the highest chart placing of Beck's career, and the RIAA certified it gold on June 7, 2005. "E-Pro," "Girl" and "Hell Yes" were released as singles, and the record is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
