Black Vinyl 2LP, 45 RPM

Sub Pop's vinyl edition of Bloom (catalog SP 965) is a double LP cut at 45 RPM, with the ten listed songs spread over four sides: three on each side of the first disc and two on each side of the second, as the back cover sets them out. The embossed jacket glows in the dark, and the discs sit in two heavy cardstock art inner sleeves, one nested inside another, printed with the lyrics and credits. Side D carries one thing the sleeve does not list. "Irene" ends in a locked groove, and past it sits a hidden track, "Wherever You Go", untitled on the release itself. The duo started that song during the Teen Dream sessions and finished it while making Bloom.

Bloom is the fourth studio album by the Baltimore duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. They recorded it in 2011 at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, on 24-track analog tape and with their own instruments, producing alongside Chris Coady, with Daniel Franz on live drums and percussion. Additional vocals were recorded at Magpie Cage in Baltimore, mixing was done at Sonic Ranch and Electric Lady in New York, and Joe LaPorta mastered the record at The Lodge. Sub Pop's own notes ask that it be heard as an album, "a singular, unified vision of the world."

"Myth" came out first, as a free download on the band's website on March 7, 2012, and "Lazuli" followed with a video directed by Allen Cordell. Sub Pop released the album in the US on May 15, 2012. It entered the Billboard 200 at number seven on first-week sales of 41,000 copies, the duo's first top 10 entry on that chart.
