Eden Brolin, Freddy Reish, Dashel Thompson and Lewis Pullman met in middle school in Los Angeles and have been recording together for fifteen years. The debut came in 2012; they reconvened in 2020 for a second record, and have since worked across time zones rather than in one room, trading files, voice memos and phone calls.

Work on Silt began in February 2024 and ran about two and a half years, with most of it tracked at Reish's Pink Feather Studio in Los Angeles during the Southern California wildfires of January 2025. The band made the record with no label behind it: "eventually, there was no label interest... we were left to pivot."

Music Connection's review describes the album trading the band's acoustic-leaning safety for fuzz pedals and horn arrangements. Nine songs, split five and four across the two sides.
