1976 US issue, Mango MLPS-9399
Aswad's debut album came out in the US on Mango in 1976, catalog number MLPS-9399, the same year Island released it in the UK as ILPS 9399. The US number keeps the UK digits and swaps ILPS for MLPS.
The object
The MLPS-9399 labels carry the Mango palm-tree logo, a New York address for Mango Records and a 1976 Island Records Ltd. copyright line. Both runouts show A-1 beside the side's MLPS-9399 matrix. The cover art is a black lion carrying a red, gold and green flag beneath a crown, with the band's name across the top.
Context
Tony Platt produced the record with the band, recording at Island's studio in Hammersmith and mixing at Basing Street Studios in London. This Mango edition is a first-year American issue rather than a later reissue.
