Indie Exclusive 2LP, 150g Clear With Red, White & Blue Splatter, Gatefold Jacket

This Indie Exclusive edition cuts the 1992 Austin City Limits taping across two 150g discs of clear vinyl splattered in red, white and blue, inside a gatefold jacket. The program appears on vinyl here for the first time; New West Records has carried it on CD and DVD since 2006. The music occupies three sides and side D is blank. A 150g black 2LP of the same program, UPC 607396598519, shares its November 13, 2026 release date.

The set was taped on October 14, 1992 for the Austin City Limits television program. Asleep at the Wheel had been with the series almost from the beginning. New West's notes place the band on the first episode of the first season in 1976, after Willie Nelson taped the pilot, and the band has since played the show a record ten times. Ray Benson fronts a fourteen-song program that moves from Western swing instrumentals through "Hot Rod Lincoln" and "Get Your Kicks (On Route 66)."

The second half brings four former members of Bob Wills' Texas Playboys onto the stage: electric guitarist Eldon Shamblin, singer Leon Rausch, steel player Herb Remington and fiddler Johnny Gimble. They take up Wills material - "Corine Corina," "Blues for Dixie," "Roly Poly" and "Sugar Moon" - and the album is credited to Asleep at the Wheel featuring the Texas Playboys. Gimble had recorded with the Wheel before, playing on the band's 1987 album 10, and the Wills songbook runs through the band's catalogue: Ride with Bob, its 1999 tribute, won two Grammy Awards.

Asleep at the Wheel formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia in 1970 and moved to Austin in 1974 at Willie Nelson's invitation. The band has won nine Grammy Awards and placed more than twenty-one singles on Billboard's country charts; "The Letter That Johnny Walker Read" reached number ten in 1975 and remains its highest-charting single.

New West Records first released Live From Austin, TX on CD and DVD on November 14, 2006, produced by Cameron Strang, Jay Woods and Gary Briggs. Writing for AllMusic, Thom Jurek called the performance "special," noting that the players are "so relaxed, open, and in the groove here that this stands out among their live recordings."
