This is the Columbia House club edition of The Complete Capitol Recordings Of Art Tatum, a two-CD set made under license from Capitol and issued under the shortened catalogue number CDP 521325. The trade edition carried the full Capitol Jazz number 7243 8 21325 2 3. This one came through the record club, and the foot of its rear artwork says so in a single line: "Manufactured by Columbia House Under License."

Both discs were glass mastered and pressed at WEA Manufacturing's plant in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. Disc 1 carries the matrix [WEA Mfg. Olyphant logo] Y3779 5 CDP21325-2.1 01 in its inner ring. The Columbia House credit is printed on the rear artwork only, not on the discs. The tray card also carries the Capitol Jazz logo, a Super Bit Mapping (SBM) badge, the bluenote.com address, a 0 20831 barcode and a 1997 Capitol Records copyright line.

The discs were made sometime between 1997, when Capitol Jazz first issued the compilation, and 2003, when WEA Manufacturing sold the Olyphant plant to Cinram and the WEA Mfg. Olyphant mark stopped appearing in matrices. That makes this a club reissue of the 1997 set, not the trade original. Tracks 7 to 14 on disc two add Everett Barksdale on guitar and Slam Stewart on bass. The rest is Tatum at the piano, and disc one closes with a short promotional interview with Paul Weston.

The album collects all of Tatum's Capitol recordings on two discs. The same material first came out as two separate volumes in 1989.
