180-Gram Black Vinyl Double LP, Expanded Edition

Archie Shepp's quartet cut this set at Studio 44 in Monster, Holland on January 27, 1988, and Timeless Records issued it the following year as SJP 287, produced by the label's Wim Wigt. Shepp plays tenor saxophone alongside Dave Burrell on piano, Herman Wright on bass and Stephen McCraven on drums, with Annette Lowman singing lead.

The program sets Shepp's own writing against the standard repertoire. He contributes "Stars Are in Your Eyes" and "Brand New World / Breaking a New Day"; Burrell wrote "Margy Pargy"; and the rest comes from the songbook, including the Jimmy Davis, Ram Ramirez and James Sherman title song, Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach's "Yesterdays," Rodgers and Hart's "My Funny Valentine," Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life" and Fats Waller's "Squeeze Me." Reviewing the album for AllMusic, Steve Loewy rated it four stars and described it as "relaxing, good, swinging jazz that lifts the spirits or touches the soul."

Music On Vinyl spreads the nine tracks across four sides on two 180-gram discs. The label describes this as an expanded edition and states that two of them, "Margy Pargy" and "Tribute to Bessie Smith," were previously available only on the CD issue. Scott Yanow wrote the liner notes. Pressed in the Netherlands, catalog number MOVLPI3836.

Shipping Speeds & Delivery Estimates

Delivery timelines are estimates, not guarantees.

Estimated delivery windows are quoted at checkout based on the shipping speed you select and your delivery address. Transit time begins after your order has been processed.

Typical delivery within the United States ranges from 3–7 business days after shipment, depending on location and selected service. Delivery times for Canada vary by destination and carrier, and may be affected by customs processing.

While most deliveries arrive within the quoted window, occasional delays may occur due to weather, carrier volume, or other factors outside our control.

Shipping Rates

Shipping costs are calculated and displayed at checkout based on destination, package weight, and selected delivery speed.

Signature Requirements

Orders totaling over $250 may require a signature upon delivery to help ensure safe receipt. This is applied based on order value and carrier guidelines.

• Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the error was ours

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.
