150-Gram Black Vinyl 2LP in Gatefold Jacket

This is Columbia's 2017 double-LP reissue of The Suburbs, catalog number 88985462631, pressed on two 150-gram black discs. The gatefold jacket carries a gloss finish inside and out, the back cover is stamped in gold foil, and each record comes in a printed inner sleeve with the lyrics and credits. The runout etchings on all four sides read STERLING, the mark of Sterling Sound.

Sixteen songs run four to a side, numbered straight through from 1 to 16 rather than restarting on each disc. In the vinyl running order "Suburban War" sits second to last, and side C closes with "We Used to Wait" running into a locked groove that repeats until the stylus is lifted.

The Suburbs is Arcade Fire's third studio album, first issued in August 2010 by Merge in North America and Mercury in the UK. Its lyrics draw on Win and William Butler's upbringing in The Woodlands, Texas, a suburb of Houston. Most of it was recorded at Win Butler and Régine Chassagne's home in Montreal, with further work at the band's studio in Quebec and in New York City. The band produced it with Markus Dravs, arranged the strings with Owen Pallett and mixed with Craig Silvey. During production each completed song was pressed to a 12-inch lacquer and recorded back for the digital master.

The album entered the charts at number one in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland. It took Album of the Year at the 53rd Grammy Awards and at the 2011 Juno Awards, International Album at the 2011 BRIT Awards, and the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. Two weeks after the Grammy it climbed from No. 52 to No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Spike Jonze directed the title-track video, cut from his short film Scenes from the Suburbs.
