Black Vinyl LP in a Gatefold Jacket

This is Sony Music's single-LP reissue of Funeral, catalog number 88985462421, pressed on black vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket. Its US street date was December 22, 2017. The ten songs sit five to a side, with the four-part "Neighborhood" sequence and "Une Année Sans Lumière" on side A, and the jacket and center labels number the tracks 1 through 10 straight through rather than restarting on side B.

Funeral is the debut studio album by the Montreal band Arcade Fire, first issued by Merge Records on September 14, 2004. Most of it was recorded over a single week in August 2003 at the Hotel2Tango studio in Montreal and finished later in an analog format, with further sessions in Win Butler and Régine Chassagne's apartment. The title reflects the deaths of several band members' relatives during its making, among them Win and William Butler's grandfather, the swing bandleader Alvino Rey. The "Neighborhood" songs follow a town through a midwinter power outage, drawn from the North American ice storm of 1998.

The record was the first Merge release to enter the Billboard 200 and was nominated for the 2005 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. It is certified Gold by the RIAA, and "Rebellion (Lies)", the most successful of its five singles, reached No. 19 on the UK Singles Chart. Pitchfork named it the top album of 2004 and placed it second on its list of the 2000s. The cover, by Montreal artist Tracy Maurice, shows a quill sprouting foliage, painted onto a piece of a wooden planter.

The video above is the remastered clip for "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)", issued for the album's fifteenth anniversary and directed by Josh Deu, a one-time member of the band.
