Rhino Reserve 180-Gram Black Vinyl LP

This LP opened Rhino Reserve, the all-analog vinyl series Rhino Entertainment announced on December 10, 2024. Southern Nights and Eddie Hazel's Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs were its first two titles, both issued on January 31, 2025 as part of Rhino's annual Start Your Ear Off Right campaign. Rhino priced the series below its numbered Rhino High Fidelity line, and Rhino A&R senior director Patrick Milligan called it "a new chapter in our commitment to audiophile-quality vinyl." The catalog number is RES1 2186.

The lacquers were cut from the original analog tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Rhino named Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab as the series' regular cutting engineer, with Bellman handling the inaugural pair. The disc is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and ships in a heavyweight board jacket, in keeping with the series' aim of preserving the original packaging, with Rhino Reserve labels and a Fidelity-branded poly inner sleeve.

Toussaint produced and arranged the album with his Sea-Saint Studio partner Marshall Sehorn, and Reprise first released it in May 1975. The New Orleans sessions featured George Porter Jr. on bass, Joseph Modeliste on drums, Leo Nocentelli on guitar and Arthur Neville on organ, and instrumental passages link the songs into a loose concept album. Neither of its singles charted, but Glen Campbell's 1977 cover of the title track topped Billboard's country, pop and adult contemporary charts. In 1994 Toussaint named it his best album.
