Parlophone's vinyl edition of the Air debut, pressed on 180 gram black vinyl in a single-pocket jacket with a printed inner sleeve carrying lyrics, credits and images.

Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel recorded Moon Safari between April and June 1997 at Around the Golf and Gang studios in Paris. The string sections were taped at Abbey Road in London, and Stéphane "Alf" Briat mixed the record at Studio Plus XXX in Paris. Beth Hirsch sings lead on two tracks, "All I Need" and "You Make It Easy"; the rest is the duo working through Moog, Rhodes, vocoder and live bass.

Three singles came off it — "Sexy Boy" in February 1998, "Kelly Watch the Stars" in May and "All I Need" in November. The album reached No. 6 in the United Kingdom and charted in Ireland, Norway, Austria, France, Australia and the Netherlands. The BPI has certified it double platinum for 600,000 UK units; it is gold in Germany and France and double platinum in Denmark, against roughly two million sold worldwide.

It appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and Rolling Stone placed it at No. 93 on its list of the best albums of the 1990s.
