Limited Oxblood Vinyl LP

Glitterhouse's limited oxblood red pressing of Secret South, catalogue number GRLP480LTDR. The label's notes for the edition describe the album as the band at their darkest and most expansive, and point to the bandoneon, banjo and hurdy-gurdy that sit alongside the guitars.

Secret South was 16 Horsepower's third album and their first for Glitterhouse, the German independent they moved to after A&M was absorbed into Universal. The band recorded it at the Hamilton Glory Lodge in Blue River, Colorado, with Bob Ferbrache engineering; Ferbrache had worked with them for years and played organ in the early lineup. Stephen Taylor, previously their guitar technician and touring guitarist, joined as a full member for these sessions, alongside David Eugene Edwards, bassist Pascal Humbert and drummer Jean-Yves Tola. Metacritic puts the album's aggregate score at 82.

Two of the eleven songs are not the band's own. "Wayfaring Stranger" is the traditional, and "Nobody 'Cept You" is Bob Dylan's - a song Dylan had recorded himself but never issued on a studio album, which made this the first version to appear on one. "Clogger" was the single, and its video featured Jay Munly and Asher Edwards, David Eugene Edwards' daughter. Jean-Yves Tola has since called the record a true representation of the band at that time, made with almost no compromise.
