Black Vinyl LP With Digital Download

This is the 2018 Columbia/Legacy vinyl reissue of The Troublemaker, catalog number 19075873841: a single black LP with six songs on the first side and five on the second, packaged with an MP3 download code.

Nelson cut the album in two days in February 1973 at Atlantic Records' studio in New York, with Arif Mardin producing, shortly after Jerry Wexler signed him as Atlantic's first country artist. The songs are classic gospel standards arranged by Nelson in a honky-tonk style. His sister Bobbie Nelson played piano, and Doug Sahm and his band joined the sessions, which also produced Shotgun Willie.

Atlantic shelved the record and later closed its country division. Columbia released it in 1976, after the success of Red Headed Stranger. It reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and No. 60 on the Billboard 200, and "Uncloudy Day" reached No. 4 on the Hot Country Singles chart.

The session players included Jimmy Day on pedal steel and Dobro, Paul English on drums, Dan Spears on double bass and Jeff Gutcheon on organ, with Larry Gatlin, Sammi Smith and Dee Moeller singing.
