CD in Jewel Case With O-Card Slipcase

This is the US Nonesuch CD of Wilco's seventh studio album, catalog number 516608-2, first issued on June 30, 2009. The disc sits in a jewel case with a transparent tray and a 20-page booklet, and the whole package slides into an O-card slipcase. It was pressed by Cinram in Olyphant, Pennsylvania.

Sessions began at the band's Chicago loft in October 2008. In late December, Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone flew to New Zealand at Neil Finn's invitation to take part in the 7 Worlds Collide benefit for Oxfam, and kept working on the record at Finn's Roundhead Studios in Auckland with co-producer and engineer Jim Scott. Back in Chicago, Nels Cline and Mikael Jorgensen added their overdubs, and Feist recorded her vocal for "You and I" in February, making it the first duet to appear on a Wilco album. Scott mixed the album with Kevin Dean at PLYRZ Studios in Santa Clarita, California, and Bob Ludwig mastered it at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine.

When the album leaked in May 2009, the band streamed it free on its website and asked listeners to consider a donation to Inspiration Corporation. It reached No. 4 on the US albums chart, "You Never Know" went to No. 1 on Billboard's Triple A chart, and the record was nominated for the Grammy for Best Americana Album. It was also the band's last studio album for Nonesuch before Wilco started its own label, dBpm.

Autumn de Wilde took the cover photograph, and Tweedy designed the package with Lawrence Azerrad. Nonesuch notes that the camel in the party hat answers to Alfred. Jason Tobias plays slide cimbalom on "Deeper Down," and Dave Max Crawford adds trumpet to "Everlasting Everything."
