Standard CD Edition

This is the US compact disc of Weezer's thirteenth studio album, the self-titled record known as the Black Album, issued by Crush Music and Atlantic Records under catalog number 585330-2. One disc holds all ten songs, a running time of a little under 38 minutes.

The album came out on March 1, 2019, only five weeks after the band's previous self-titled release, the Teal Album. Rivers Cuomo first hinted at it in April 2016, shortly after the White Album, describing the idea as "Beach Boys gone bad" and saying he was thinking about swearing in songs for the first time. HMV's notes add that the early material leaned toward beach reveries instead, so the band finished Pacific Daydream (2017) first and returned to the darker concept afterward.

Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio produced it, and the sessions were recorded during 2018 at United Recording and Federal Prism in Los Angeles. The label's notes for the release say Cuomo wrote the songs entirely on piano, a first for the band, and that the members switched instruments in the studio.

Four singles came ahead of the album: "California Snow" in September 2018, "Can't Knock the Hustle" that October, "Zombie Bastards" in November, and the paired "High as a Kite" and "Living in L.A." in February 2019. The album reached No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and drew mixed reviews.
