CD EP, Authorized Manufactured On Demand CD-R

This is the CD of SZNZ: Summer under its original barcode, now supplied through Atlantic's manufactured-on-demand line. The distributor's listing for this UPC describes each copy as an authorized CD-R made to order, rather than a disc from the factory-pressed run. It carries the full seven-song EP, 23 minutes and 37 seconds of music.

SZNZ (pronounced "seasons") was a four-part project, one release for each season, and Summer was the second, issued digitally on June 21, 2022, the summer solstice. Rivers Cuomo described its sound as "21st century 90s" and linked the project's look to 44 BC and the end of the Roman Republic. The lead single, "Records," arrived five days earlier through an app called Human Record Player, which played the song only while the listener spun in a circle like a turntable. Weezer performed it on Jimmy Kimmel Live around the release.

Daniel Omelio, credited as Robopop, produced the record, with additional and vocal production from Suzy Shinn. It was tracked at 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica with Charlie Brand engineering, and Bernie Grundman mastered it. The lineup is Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson. Cuomo wrote every song; "Records" is a co-write with Sam Hollander and Grant Michaels. Tension Division handled art direction and design.

Reviews split. Alex Hudson at Exclaim! called it the band's heaviest release, ahead of Maladroit and Van Weezer, and scored it 7/10; Pitchfork's Jesse Locke gave it 4.2.
