Indie Exclusive Glow In The Dark Vinyl, 12-Inch 45 RPM EP

This is the indie-retail exclusive vinyl edition of SZNZ: Spring: a single 12-inch disc pressed on glow-in-the-dark vinyl, cut at 45 RPM and sleeved in a single-pocket jacket. Atlantic and Crush Music released it on February 3, 2023. It was the record's first appearance on vinyl, nearly a year after the digital release, and a black pressing was issued at the same time. Copies were manufactured in Canada, and the hype sticker quotes a fan post from @clusterhugss: "weezer elfcore era???"

The vinyl runs eight songs, one more than the digital and CD releases. "Across the Meadow" appears only on this format, third on side B, and "Wild at Heart" moves from seventh place to close the record.

SZNZ, pronounced "seasons," is a four-part project with each part released at the start of a season. Spring arrived digitally on March 20, 2022, the day of the spring equinox. Rivers Cuomo first described the concept in a January 2021 interview, and the band tied Spring's look to a pre-Christian era drawing on Celtic, pagan and Wiccan influences. Ethan Gruska produced alongside Jake Sinclair and Suzy Shinn, who had both worked with the band on Weezer (White Album) and OK Human. Bernie Grundman mastered the record, and Tension Division handled art direction and design.

"A Little Bit of Love" was the only single, released March 16, 2022. It reached No. 4 on Billboard's Rock & Alternative Airplay chart and No. 2 on the Canada Rock chart. "The Sound of Drums" works in portions of two poems, Abigail Spinner McBride's "Back to the River" and Andras Corban-Arthen's "Air I Am." Metacritic puts the album at 63 out of 100 from seven critics' reviews. The lineup is Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson.
