CD Album

This is the US compact disc of Pacific Daydream, Weezer's eleventh studio album, issued October 27, 2017 by Crush Music with Atlantic Records under catalog number 563788-2. One disc carries the ten-track running order. The Japanese CD added a bonus acoustic version of "Feels Like Summer"; this edition keeps to the ten.

Butch Walker produced and engineered nine of the ten songs and added guitar, synth, percussion and backing vocals. Eric Valentine mixed and mastered those nine at Barefoot Recording Studio. The exception is "Feels Like Summer," the lead single released March 16, 2017: Jonny Coffer produced it with J.R. Rotem as co-producer, and Tony Maserati mixed it. Recording ran across Ruby Red Productions, The Village, The Lair and Play Deep Studios, with Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson credited as performers.

The album began as something else. In 2016 Cuomo was filling one folder with songs for a darker project, provisionally titled The Black Album, but a second folder of different material was finished first, and the band put the darker set aside. Cuomo's working title was Somebody's Daydream until Wilson suggested "Pacific." Cuomo drew on an archive of musical and lyrical fragments, with programmers organizing lyric snippets in a spreadsheet by tempo, syllable count and key.

"Mexican Fender," the opening track, was written by Cuomo and Toby Gad, and its video arrived on August 17, 2017 alongside the album's title and artwork. The bridge of "Beach Boys" quotes Murry Wilson, father of Brian Wilson. "Weekend Woman" opens with a nod to the Zombies' "Time of the Season" and reuses a verse melody from "Burning Sun," a Green Album outtake. "Happy Hour" followed as the second official single on October 31, 2017.

Pacific Daydream debuted at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 68 on the UK Albums Chart. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. The cover art is by Jade Ehlers with Fran Rodriguez and Matt Meiners, and the photography is by Jeremy Cowart.
