120-Gram Black Vinyl LP With 12x12 Insert

Geffen returned Maladroit to vinyl on October 28, 2016 under catalog number B0025155-01: one 120-gram disc in a standard jacket with a 12x12 printed insert, its thirteen songs split six to side A and seven to side B. Copies from that 2016 run carry a sticker crediting Direct Metal Mastering at Abbey Road Mastering Studios, and the LP has since been repressed under the same barcode. The label's solicitation for the reissue says the cover art was picked from fan submissions gathered through the band's website.

Maladroit was Weezer's fourth studio album, first issued by Geffen on May 14, 2002. The band produced it themselves, and it was their first album with bassist Scott Shriner, who joined after Mikey Welsh left in 2001. It was recorded at Cello Studios in Los Angeles in December 2001, mixed by Tom Lord-Alge at South Beach Studios in Miami that January, and mastered by Stephen Marcussen.

The record was made in unusually public view. Weezer posted demos to its website through the sessions and traded notes with fans on message boards; fan requests brought the 2000 song "Slob" back into the running, and a board member posting as Lethe suggested the title, a word meaning awkward or clumsy. Radio stations picked up the uploaded demos, and "Dope Nose" reached No. 25 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart before any official single had been issued.

Maladroit debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 152,000 copies sold in its first week, and the RIAA certified it Gold a month after release. "Dope Nose" and "Keep Fishin'" were its two singles, and Spin placed it sixth among the albums of 2002.
