This is the 2022 Avenue Records and Rhino reissue of The World Is A Ghetto, catalog number R1 645907: one black vinyl LP in a single pocket jacket printed with the original cover art. Avenue and Rhino marked the album's 50th anniversary later the same year with a new Dolby Atmos mix.
The album came out in November 1972, the third studio album War made after Eric Burdon left the group in 1971. Jerry Goldstein produced it, and it was recorded at Crystal Sound with engineer Chris Huston. The seven-piece lineup was Papa Dee Allen, Harold Brown, B.B. Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan, Charles Miller, Lee Oskar and Howard Scott.
It topped both the pop and R&B album charts and was Billboard's best-selling album of 1973. Both singles went gold: "The Cisco Kid" reached No. 2 on the Hot 100, the band's highest placing there, and the title song reached No. 7 pop and No. 3 R&B. War's own store lists it among Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Only six songs fill the two sides. "City, Country, City" runs past thirteen minutes, and the title song past ten.
