Sea Blue Vinyl 2LP in a Gatefold Jacket

Hollywood Records pressed this edition of The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou soundtrack on two sea blue LPs for Record Store Day's Black Friday event in November 2021, catalog number D003745001. The sticker on the shrinkwrap notes it was the first time the soundtrack appeared on sea blue vinyl. The gatefold jacket carries Wes Anderson's liner notes, and the mastering credit goes to Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound.

The album was first released by Hollywood Records in December 2004 alongside Anderson's film. Mark Mothersbaugh scored the picture and co-produced the soundtrack with his Devo bandmate Bob Casale, while Anderson and Randall Poster are credited as soundtrack album producers. Devo's own "Gut Feeling" appears here, the first Devo song used in an Anderson film.

Two instrumentals by Australian composer Sven Libaek, "Shark Attack Theme" and "Open Sea Theme," were written for the 1970s documentary series Inner Space. Seu Jorge, who plays a crew member in the film, contributes five acoustic David Bowie covers with Portuguese lyrics, set beside Bowie's own "Life On Mars?" and "Queen Bitch" and tracks from Iggy and The Stooges, Scott Walker, The Zombies and Paco de Lucía.
