Indie Exclusive Holiday Box Set With Two Colored LPs, Two 7-Inch Singles & A DVD, Limited To 300

Sundazed Music packed four pieces of its holiday catalog into one sealed carton for independent record stores, limited to 300 boxes. Inside: Buck Owens and His Buckaroos' Christmas Shopping on green vinyl, Christmas With Buck Owens and His Buckaroos on translucent red vinyl, and the Hooray For Santa Claus 7-inch from Santa Claus Conquers The Martians on Martian Green vinyl, packaged with the full film on DVD. Each box also holds one randomly assigned 7-inch: Dr. John's "Silent Night," the Trashmen's "Dancin' With Santa," or a 1970 promotional-only single of Buck Owens and his band speaking holiday greetings, drawn from new old stock. The kraft carton is printed "Labeled For Individual Sale" and carries its own UPC.

Christmas Shopping was recorded between February and June 1968 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood with producer Ken Nelson and issued by Capitol that October as ST-2977. Owens wrote or co-wrote all twelve songs, with Red Simpson, Earl Poole Ball, Bob Morris, Jimmy Snyder and Don Rich among his partners, and two of them, "The Jolly Christmas Polka" and "Christmas Schottische," are instrumentals. The album spent a week at No. 31 on Billboard's Christmas album chart. Sundazed's green-vinyl edition was cut all-analog from the original stereo masters by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.

Christmas With Buck Owens and His Buckaroos came first, recorded in May 1965 at the same studio, again with Nelson producing, and released on October 4, 1965 as Capitol ST-2396. It reached No. 12 on Billboard's Christmas listings in its ten weeks there. The album opens with "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy," an Owens and Don Rich song, and includes instrumental takes on "Jingle Bells" and "Christmas Morning." The red-vinyl reissue carries Kevin Gray's Cohearent Audio mark in its runout.

"Hooray For Santa Claus" is the title song of the 1964 film Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. Side A is Milton DeLugg and the Little Eskimos' original, first released as a single in 1964; side B is the Fleshtones' version. The single comes in a gatefold picture sleeve, and the DVD adds a run of vintage holiday shorts to the feature. It first appeared for Record Store Day's Black Friday event in 2020, in an edition of 1,500.
