Double LP, RSD Black Friday 2019

Modern Harmonic marked the 20th anniversary of More Oar with its first vinyl edition, a double LP pressed at Third Man for Record Store Day Black Friday in November 2019, catalog MH-8072. Kevin Gray cut the lacquers. Along with the full album it adds the Flaming Lips' skeletal recording of "Little Hands," which was first intended as a collaboration with Robert Plant, and liner notes from the album's producer, Bill Bentley.

Birdman first released the tribute in 1999. Bentley, then with Warner Bros. Records, planned and produced it, and it was finished shortly before and released shortly after the death of Alexander "Skip" Spence. The covers follow the running order of Oar, from Robert Plant's "Little Hands" through Mark Lanegan, Mudhoney, Robyn Hitchcock, Tom Waits and Greg Dulli to Beck's "Furry Heroine (Halo of Gold)."

Oar was the only solo album by Spence, a founding member of Moby Grape. He recorded it over seven days in December 1968 at Columbia's studio in Nashville, playing every instrument himself, and Columbia released it on May 19, 1969.

Side D closes with two recordings outside the cover sequence: "Land of the Sun," sung by Spence himself, and then the Flaming Lips' "Little Hands." Stanley Mouse drew the cover illustration.
