Deluxe Edition 3LP On 180g Black Vinyl In A Tri-Fold Sleeve

Chrysalis issues this deluxe edition of Mechanix on three 180-gram LPs in a tri-fold sleeve, catalog number CRV1360, as the latest title in its UFO reissue series. The first LP holds the ten-track album, remastered at AIR Mastering from transfers of the original tapes. The second and third LPs carry the band's January 28, 1982 concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, newly mixed and previously unreleased, restored by Brian Kehew. The label notes that the show was played on the eve of the album's original release.

New liner notes by Michael Hann draw on fresh interviews with Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Neil Carter, and the package adds photographs from the period that had not been published before.

Mechanix was UFO's tenth studio album, released by Chrysalis in February 1982 as the follow-up to The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent. Gary Lyons produced it and engineered it with Peter Thea, working across Mountain Studios in Attalens, Switzerland, The Manor in Oxfordshire, and Scorpio Sound and Maison Rouge in London. Chrysalis describes it as Carter's full studio-record debut, on guitars, keyboards and saxophone, alongside Mogg, Parker, Paul Chapman and Pete Way. "He was so easy," Parker has said of Carter. "He pretty much had it all down." Carter has recalled arriving with demos made in his room: "when it came to Mechanix, I had some things to offer."

Of his lyrics from this period, Mogg has said: "I can't do wizards and castles." The album's one cover, "Somethin' Else," is the Eddie Cochran song written by Cochran and Sharon Sheeley. "Let It Rain" was released as a single in January 1982 and "Back Into My Life" followed in April. The album reached No. 8 on the UK Albums chart and No. 82 on the Billboard 200, and Martin Popoff gave it 8 out of 10 in The Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal. Way left the band after the tour that followed and joined Fastway.
