Silver 2LP Vinyl In Gatefold Jacket, Friday Music Limited Anniversary Edition

Friday Music's limited anniversary edition presents Live and Dangerous on two LPs of silver vinyl in a gatefold jacket, continuing the label's Thin Lizzy vinyl series. Friday Music credits the mastering to Joe Reagoso, working from the Warner Records tapes; Warner Bros. was the album's original US label. The four sides keep the 1978 running order, opening with "Jailbreak" and closing with "The Rocker."

Live and Dangerous was released on June 2, 1978, produced by Thin Lizzy with Tony Visconti, whose schedule left too little time for a new studio album, so the band assembled a live record instead. The main sources are a November 1976 show at London's Hammersmith Odeon and an October 1977 show at Seneca College Fieldhouse in Toronto, with Visconti saying "Southbound" came from a Philadelphia soundcheck; overdubs and mixing followed at Studio Des Dames in Paris in January 1978. How much was overdubbed has long been disputed. Visconti put the studio share at 75 percent, while manager Chris O'Donnell said the album was 75 percent live, with overdubs limited to backing vocals and a few guitar solos.

The lineup is Phil Lynott on bass and lead vocals, Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson on guitars and Brian Downey on drums, with John Earle on saxophone for "Dancing in the Moonlight" and Huey Lewis, credited as Bluesey Huey Lewis, on harmonica for "Baby Drives Me Crazy." The album reached No. 2 in the UK, spending 62 weeks on the chart and earning a Platinum certification, and No. 84 on the Billboard 200. "Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song" was issued as a single and reached No. 20 in the UK. In 2011 NME placed it first on its list of the 50 Greatest Live Albums of All Time.
