Black Vinyl LP

American Man was The Yawpers' first album for Bloodshot Records, released October 30, 2015, and this is its original LP pressing, catalog BS 236 LP. The record carries ten songs, five a side. The digital album runs to twelve; "Faith and Good Judgment" and "Beale Street" are not on the vinyl.

The Denver band plays with two acoustic guitars and drums: Nate Cook on vocals and guitar, Jesse Parmet on slide guitar, and on this record Noah Shomberg on drums. The name comes from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself": "I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world." Bloodshot signed them after seeing them play South by Southwest in 2015.

Cracker's Johnny Hickman produced the album with the band, and Andrew Berlin recorded it at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, the studio run by Descendents drummer Bill Stevenson. Rolling Stone featured "Burdens" in September 2015. "Doing It Right," in the label's video above, later played over the end credits of an episode of Showtime's Ray Donovan.
