Half-Speed Mastered 180 Gram Black Vinyl

Miles Showell cut this edition at half speed at Abbey Road Studios from tapes prepared by Jon Astley, and it was pressed on 180-gram black vinyl for release on September 15, 2023. The catalog number is ARHSLP019, and it comes in the original jacket with an Abbey Road obi strip, a printed inner sleeve and a half-speed mastering certificate.

Eight of its nine songs came out of Lifehouse, the multimedia project Pete Townshend abandoned in 1971; the exception is John Entwistle's "My Wife." The sleeve notes on this pressing place the recording and mixing of everything except "Won't Get Fooled Again" at Olympic in London. That one was recorded at Stargroves and mixed at Island Studios.

"Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" were both released as singles, and both feature prominent synthesizer parts. The lyric video above is for "Baba O'Riley." Ethan Russell's cover photograph shows the four members standing by a concrete pillar on a slag heap. Track issued the album in the UK and Decca in the US in August 1971, and Rolling Stone placed it at No. 77 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
