Limited Translucent Green 2LP

Collected gathers 23 recordings by The Velvet Underground on two LPs. This Music On Vinyl edition, catalog number MOVLP1960, is pressed on 180-gram translucent green vinyl in a limited run of 7,500 individually numbered copies. It comes in a gatefold jacket with a four-page booklet of liner notes. The compilation was first released in 2012.

The band formed around Lou Reed, a songwriter from Brooklyn, and John Cale, a Welsh multi-instrumentalist, with guitarist Sterling Morrison and drummer Maureen Tucker. Andy Warhol became their manager and brought in the German singer Nico for the debut, The Velvet Underground & Nico. White Light/White Heat pushed the sound harder, and after Cale left, the band's writing turned more melodic and inward.

Side A draws on the first album, with "I'm Waiting for the Man," "Venus in Furs" and "Heroin." Side B moves to White Light/White Heat and closes with "Sister Ray." The second LP mixes songs from the third album and Loaded with recordings that went unreleased in the band's time, including "Stephanie Says," "Foggy Notion" and "One of These Days."

The group had little commercial success while it was active and was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This edition is a European import.
