Rhino High Fidelity 180 Gram Vinyl LP, Elektra 75 Reissue

This LP is the Elektra 75 repress of the Rhino High Fidelity edition of The Stooges' 1969 debut. Rhino and Warner marked Elektra's 75th anniversary with the Elektra 75 Vinyl Collection, twenty limited LP releases, and carried three titles over from the Rhino High Fidelity series: Television, The Cars and this one. It was issued on July 4, 2025, as an exclusive for brick-and-mortar record stores.

Kevin Gray cut the lacquers at Cohearent Audio from the original analog master tapes, and Optimal Media pressed the record on 180-gram vinyl. It comes in a glossy, heavy tip-on gatefold jacket with an obi strip, a lyrics insert on cardstock, a black poly-lined Rhino High Fidelity inner sleeve, and an insert of rare photographs with a Q&A featuring photographer Glen Craig. The catalog number is RHF1 74051, the same as the first Rhino High Fidelity run of 2024, which was individually numbered out of 5,000.

The band recorded the album at The Hit Factory in New York in April 1969, with John Cale of the Velvet Underground producing; Cale also plays the single-note piano line on "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and viola on the record. Iggy Pop sang, Ron Asheton played guitar, Scott Asheton drums and Dave Alexander bass. Elektra released it in August 1969, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "1969" went out as singles, and the album reached No. 106 on the Billboard 200. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 488 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
